In April 1749 , the famous composer Handel was commissioned by England's King George II to write a piece of music to accompany a fireworks display . The piece was called " The Music of music of Royal Fireworks ." Utilizing Oboes , bassoons , horns and violins in combination , Handel not only exploited each instrument's character fully , but also mimicked the character of the fireworks . Thus it was on the night of the April 27th , 1749 , alongside London Bridge , the practice of musical accompaniment to fireworks was born .
Two hundred and fifty years later, on July 12th, 1992, Sunny achieved overnight success by winning fireworks competition in Montreal and Canada. Sunny's display was also accompanied by traditional Chinese music played on traditional Chinese instruments . The fireworks were synchronized to the music by using computer technology . As the music changed , so did the fireworks . Thousands of people crowded onto a bridge to be delighted by the display of light and music .
